Understanding Blogging & Social Media

Standard

Marketing and consumer behavior

Its been a year and a half since I started blogging. When I began I was a battered and bruised warrior, on a mission to recover from an accident. Today, I’m still that warrior with a weakness in one area and stronger in others. Whatever makes us weak can be complimented by increased strength developed elsewhere.

If blogging was my day job I would fire me(smile), or I would give me several warning letters! Consistency has not been something I can be marked favorably on. Instead, healing has been my all-time job, and once I accepted the position, there are benefits for the gains I have been making. You must be fully committed to whatever you pursue if you are seeking excellence.

Benchmarking against the performance of theory and others, can severely weaken one’s ability to grow when it comes to healing. An excellent doctor once admonished me by saying, “Your body knows itself. It tells you when it needs help. How can you tell it, it does not, when it shows its distress through pain and inflammation?” Thus I eventually listened to my body, giving it time to recover. With blogging I decided to listen on several publishing platforms, to understand what drives readers and followers to choose one over another.

Readers, followers, bloggers

8af7a-animal-2067456__340

Blogging is much more than sharing stories via words posted online. “One must be keen to listen to be good at blogging, because its about a conversation.” This is my understanding of blogging from my experience. Businesses have been reaching out to have this conversation. Bloggers tell a story with their reading/viewing customers, which can help influence the decision-making process. In fact, social media influencing has become a major marketing strategy across most commercial industries. Competitive advantage is gained or lost through reviews of ‘rants and raves’ ( Trip advisor ,Amazon, and others) on the customer experience — experienced!

People blog because they believe they have something they wish to share with the world. For this sharing to be effective, an audience that is willing to read and respond is necessary. Responding can take the form of ‘liking’ and that can be compared to someone listening to a singer and clapping to show their appreciation. When the audience starts singing along with the singer, its the beginning of ‘engagement’ and a beautiful conversation. The standing ovation can be associated with the sharing and commenting on the blog which stirs emotion.

Marketing and the Blogger

In marketing we learn that different markets require different strategies. Our target market will be made up of several types of consumers, and the ones we focus on will be those we believe we can convert to buyers. If our research is contaminated by bias, or misinformation, then, when the product is offered the results will dispute the research. Personal blogging can be like that.

Some bloggers will start without a clear plan. As they develop confidence in their skill, they may be guided by the topics which stimulate discussion and sharing from followers. Many times , bloggers do not see their readers and followers as consumers, and are disheartened by the results after publishing. Bloggers should have a basic marketing strategy to ‘get the ball rolling’ based on their objectives and goals.

Blogging and social media communication, requires some general understanding of marketing and consumer behavior to be effective. You don’t need to be qualified to listen , you simply need to be ‘open’ to listening. Blogs are important as stated in ‘Principles of Marketing, Kotler & Armstrong. 2006,p561. Pearson, 11th Edition’, “Blogs have voice and personality. They’re human. They come to us not from some media-genic, anchor-bot on an air-conditioned sound stage, but from an individual.” This is one of the reasons why we experience strong emotions, when bloggers use their pen, sharing their truest opinions and beliefs. When a reader takes the time to respond passionately whether in agreement or disagreement, the blogger has been effective.

In his latest article on Inc. ‘Here’s how to properly align your sales and marketing teams in 2017′, John White states, “ Social media has caused a blur in activities that are now both sales and marketing related…” As bloggers we should align our blogs (sales product) with marketing to increase our readership. When I started to think of blogging as a product I’m selling to my readers, the way I write and share took on a different meaning. My followers create a market for the words I’m ready to share!

I have found this blogging journey to be quite fascinating as I take apart the traditional thoughts and theories on marketing and consumer behavior. Social media is a dynamic communication tool, which requires ongoing participation and interaction, for the analytics to make sense!

Have I stirred a flame with embers glowing — please share your thoughts via comments. Thanks for being awesome!

Keeping YOU in my loop!

To all my followers and readers. I appreciate your support. 2017 has been good. It has brought some challenges which can only make me stronger and maybe change my vision on what I expect for the future. This blog is import to me because you read, share and are a part of my world.

For 2017, I made a decision to try to streamline my online musings and content into different categories. Business and career categories will overlap when it comes to my blog platform, because life is not one dimensional.

There are many personal reflections on a wide range of topics which will only be published here though shared sometimes on other sites from time to time. We will see how this works and will review as we move forward.

I’m also publishing on Medium some specific posts/articles via Thrive Global and Marketing &Growth Hacking publishing sites. The stories on both are quite good and also including links to these home pages.

When I publish there I will provide a link to the articles/posts here also, so you won’t miss any of my writings. I’d like to get to know my followers and if you comment or like my posts here or on any link, I will respond.

Here are some new writings I hope you will enjoy at Marketing & Growth Hacking Publication;

The Social Media Follower : Following Communication

Excerpt: There are somethings we forget about humans when we are caught up in the latest technology blitz or hype. Not many people like to ask questions. They don’t like asking for several reasons which include the fear of sounding ignorant, dumb or stupid. Communication tools and social media channels are things which demand questions to be asked, because they change so frequently. Here are some examples of the words which ‘tripped me up’, before I asked questions and investigated their meanings;”

Understanding Blogging & Social Media : Consumer Behavior
Excerpt: “Blogging is much more than sharing stories via words posted online. “One must be keen to listen to be good at blogging, because its about a conversation.” This is my understanding of blogging from my experience. Businesses have been reaching out to have this conversation. Bloggers tell a story with their reading/viewing customers, which can help influence the decision-making process.”

Failing Up: There is only one ‘F’ word we fear as business people

Excerpt: “To be a successful business entrepreneur, you really need to get up and get going to the next round. Sometimes a referee will halt the match, allowing one of the fighters to get help and catch his breath. Take that opportunity and breathe, the business can wait, while you regroup and focus on the next round.”

Thank you for reading, interacting and sharing. I hope there is something within which resonates and inspires you today! Stay awesome 🙂

A short brief about me: I’m a corporate business veteran, with practical experience in a diverse range of industries — Safety/ HVAC / FMCG /Industrial Equipment /and much more . Sales ,Marketing, Business Development & Coaching are combined to deliver over 30 years experience. As an entrepreneur and blogger (Dwordslayer) I’m right now living an adventure, and looking forward to the next opportunity to challenge mediocrity.

A Fired-Up Bee…

Standard

Some help from William Shakespeare

Friends, Bloggers, Social Media Citizens…lend me your ears. I write to share my experiences and perspectives not to praise beBee. There are many social media sites on the internet. The good is often shared with others via blogs, so let it be with clicking on, and experiencing  beBee.

There may be a few bloggers who have different experiences from my own, but each one can choose to receive that which they wish for. From my own engagement I have found it to be the best social media experience thus far in my blogging journey. My words come from my heart and head, and they are written to be shared. Every site will share your words, but some  will use selective algorithms and systems based on their philosophy. BeBee’s philosophy is about ‘affinity’ and this is a core aspect of their platform thus sharing is not restricted to your network.

As a relatively new platform the company is building a culture in-keeping with its philosophy of inclusion, based on its actions. Yes, generally everything which is new needs to be tested, used , tweaked and adjusted, and beBee is doing that. Engagement requires more than one willing party, so from the beginning something was needed to build a new and engaging team of supporters.

The Ambassador program was established early on, for those who wish and desire to be bricklayers, and foundation builders. These Ambassadors have a core belief based on their history of engagement and interaction, and this in my opinion is ‘positive affinity’. These ambassadors and those who will be added are part of the ‘building team’ because they believe in ‘positive affinity’.

Engagement  can be positive and not be in-agreement, this is an art which ‘social media aficionados’ practice online and in their non virtual lives. Engagement can be passionate and fiery without being nasty and disrespectful. Engagement can be expressive and powerful, yet kind in delivery of the written word. Arguments and disagreements are the hallmark of diverse opinions and immense learning and fun!  Yes, my friends we will be proved by our words and willingness to fight fair, so no one feels the need to ‘block out’ those whose aim wound, with or without intent.

Indeed, with the introduction of video streaming beBee can once more distinguish itself as a trendsetter and not simply a platform geared to fulfilling its own needs without understanding the needs of its users. If you have seen the video streams you may find that sense of affinity shining through. Why should one’s professional life be a façade separate and apart from one’s social persona; a coin has two sides both different and unified into one – So too beBee and I am sure ‘others’ will follow because it makes sense.

But I am here to share my experiences and perspectives, and my poetic self, does resolve to say;

When I am asked, where would you  recommend someone to start their social media experience – the answer is beBee

Why don’t you choose a site and build a platform and place all your energies in one location, the answer is –beBee shares with everyone, and so I’ll follow their lead. They have proven their interest in sharing my words on their platform and on others.

Why don’t you just go with one of the other platforms that know their stuff, the answer is, what matters in not who exists right now but who is intent on growing and being around for my words to be shared – that’s beBee. A thought occurred to me one day recently, ‘why buy what is established as good by others when something better is being innovated which fits me.’

Why beBee, my answer is , why not beBee? Those who were here before have played innovator and forgotten how they began and why they wanted to grow. I feel creative when logging into beBee. I don’t expect perfection like that of something old, but an improved creation of what is new, with a desire for continuous evolution. I want to be social, and engaged. I want to meet others who are like minded and those who are different. I want to learn about new cultures and another language. I want to be a part of the biggest change in how we use social media to build relationships, brands, and awareness.

So yes, I am cheerful, I am happy tagging my followers, encouraging and highlighting beBee. There are naysayers who may have different perspectives, and that’s the way of the world. My heart is filled with appreciation for these humble Spaniards who have dared to take on the ‘rest of the world.’ Their social media philosophy, I heartily embrace. The Ambassador engaging support team, I am privileged to be a part of. I have accepted the baton, with a blindfold but in trust, because of my experiences. BeBee is growing… welcome and be a part of this site with me.

*** For those Shakespeare lovers, the speech by Marc Anthony in Julius Caesar is by far one of the most powerful and moving speeches written from the works of William Shakespeare. I remember each line, from that 3rd act scene 2, as I sat thinking about beBee, the ambassadors, bloggers, followers. I hope the essence of that speech resonates through my own. Those who have eyes to see and a passion to read, share and engage my words, I thank you very much!

Picture Perfect – San Fernando Hill

Standard

Sunday 18th September I visited San Fernando Hill, Trinidad. There are many words I can use to describe the scene which met me. However, none would do justice to the beauty and calm, sersfh11enity and peace felt as I found my way to the top of this hill.

Most times, when something plateaus it has reached its climax, for me it never does. Every time I think  okay I’ve seen it all before, it takes my breath away.

The birds can be heard as you ascend, and the windows must stay down to experience the difference in sound. The town is just a few minutes away, but this does not affect the beauty on this hill!

What could I forget…

I visited San Fernando Hill to share a picturesque view with the bloggers and readers who follow me on beBee and my blogs. Apart from the beach, where is my next go to place when I want to be inspired and share inspiration? This question answered itself. Thus after church on Sunday morning, I headed up this hill to show the world the view, streaming live.

It did not happen. I forgot to download the beBee app before getting there. Plan B, taking photos and recording a couple videos seemed my next options.

There is so much more to share…

The sun was out in full force, and my lenses got very dark. On all the sides the view was beautiful, and my greedy fingers got a lot of photos to share with you. There are many days I long for the beauty of what cannot be bought, it just takes a step outside.

Outside the boundaries

Social media challenges us to step outside of our boundaries. Bebee challenges us to get involved from the beginning. To experience the raw beauty of innovation and communication. To be bold and engage with different languages. To stream live videos which can tell the stories we wish to share to our audience. Moving forward can seem like starting over, or it can be a way of broadening horizons. Seeing differently, and enjoying the improvements!

Welcome to “Bee Social” Hive

Standard

To”beBee” or To beBee  that is the question?

Well friends, I’m sure by now you may have heard about a new social media platform called beBee. This social media site originates from Spain and has buzzed its way to the Top of my social media listing. In fact, when you like something a lot you want to see it grow. Like an adopted child I’ve embraced this website and its ‘affinity style’ of being social. The owners have made it their business to be around, and they are quite good at being present.

This beBee affinity social media network embraces its followers, and bloggers. To grow they’ve been letting the people who are using the site promote the site – and have appointed Ambassadors over the months from their international blogging community. Yes, we love this so much we are helping folks we have only met online grow this community – so this is international integration and affinity!

As the world continues to build international communities barriers are being crossed and languages learnt. Now you can practice your languages and learn about cultures and people by simply clicking – wonderful!

Groups are called ‘Hives’ and they can be specialized for almost any topic. My first ‘Hive’ is called ‘Bee Social’, and is intended to be the go to place to read almost anything, and to just be social. The description is below….

Finding the lost runner

Standard

I’m awake

It’s after 3:00am in the morning and I’m writing a quickie note. I’ve already had five hours sleep and I’m restless. As I check my Facebook account an article jumps out at me. Maybe its the photo, or maybe its the first post by a friend in a runner’s magazine / blog which catches me.

Pascal Derrien is a blogger and friend from Ireland. He runs. He cycles. He does the stuff I want to do, so reading his words is uplifting. I’m inspired, motivated and sometimes in awe. Here is the article I read,”Lost In The Midlands On An Epic Adventure from thesmartrunner.com  . The tag line for The Smart Runner is “eat smart, train smart, run smart”- I think they mean ‘live smart’!

Looking back

My daughter was around two and a half when I realized I needed to regain my fitness and relieve the stresses of being a single working mom. Coping with everything relating to parenting was always better when I felt good about myself. My sons were twelve and thirteen at the time, and my neighbor was a fitness instructor. We would leave for the stadium at around 4:00 am and return home by 5:15am. Her name is Althea and she was extremely fit and I felt motivated having a buddy work out with me. She is also one of the most caring and selfless persons I’ve ever met. As a personal trainer and friend she was non judgmental, and never let me give up. Working out with a buddy makes being accountable easy, especially when they can call your bluff. Tough love was her mantra.

There were five persons walking or  running around the stadium early every morning. One of the men was very over weight and looked like he could’ve been in his fifties. This man was consistent, and for an entire year, he never stopped his early morning ritual. We were consistent most days but went three days a week. After some time I noticed he had lost a lot of weight, and felt the need to compliment him on his success. This man advised that he was diabetic and had other medical problems thus decided to get serious about his life. His doctor advised he walk daily and change his diet.

Another thing I recall about those early morning walks / runs is the camaraderie and silent relationships built based on presence. We knew everyone by sight, and some by name. Even the security guards would know who we were. When you go somewhere often you are not anonymous, and that can be a good thing. People will say, ” hey you are doing great, keep it up,” or will ask, “how are you doing today, you don’t appear to be well?” Someone knows you exist and that matters to all of us.

Being fit is a way of life. It does not happen unless you make it happen. Looking at others won’t make you fit. Inspiration can only plant the desire, you have to make it happen. Sweat comes from action. Everything in life comes from action. When is the best time to do something – today, now.

This morning, I feel inspired. It’s time to start being consistent and take a step outside of my comfort zone. It’s time to let that morning air be inhaled from the outside and not from within. It’s time to stop finding all the reasons why I can’t, and not be afraid to do what appears to now be a challenge. What I know won’t matter or impact on my life unless action accompanies the knowledge. I’ve done it before. I’m inspired.

Going to get my sweats and shoes on 🙂

Have a wonderful day, and be inspired to pursue your dreams! As you read, if it resonates, comment and share, maybe we can inspire the dreams of others to be a reality!

Interviews and Beyond: Pamela Williams

Standard

Looking forward

The storyteller is so much more than one can imagine. We keep our dreams and thoughts locked away, because reality is lagging behind the adventures we seek from within. Our thoughts and dreams may appear as fiction but can be rooted in reality, and a future only found when we allow our stories to develop, as we live our lives. Going beyond is like looking in a mirror and creating our visions of the future world!

Pamela Williams is a woman with determination. The first time I read an article from her related to a community environmental meeting by some youths and I was hooked – Hope exists in the youth of our nation. Here is a woman who cares for what is right for her community and the environment. She seems as fearless as the warrior she writes about  in her fictional stories and will champion a cause to the end. Pamela is also willing to try something new, and was quite willing to activate a Skype account for us to chat about this interview. As we spoke, she was happy to share her experiences on social media and how exciting it has been learning automation from Paul Croubalian! I have not embraced that aspect of technology yet, but was sold after speaking with her! It is my pleasure to have Pamela accept this interview challenge and all its components – visual images to accent the responses!

The Interview…

There is a lot to think about as it relates to the future – when you think about it. The world as we know it is growing at a phenomenal speed. We gain much with technology and yet our humanness seems questionable at times. The past has locked away the hurts from its present, sometimes remaining only as historically beautiful scars. What was, can impact on our society, but it all depends of what we have learnt from that era.

Donna-Luisa: Archeologists in the year 2054 discover there is life deep below a Mayan village lost in time. They need someone with your skills to help unlock their city for the world to see. The world no longer has any vegetation, but their world does. What will you do, and why?

Pamela: Thank you Donna-Luisa for asking me for an interview, I’m simply thrilled to have the opportunity to talk to you! Now as for these questions, you had me thinking hard about the Question 1answers, and so here we go:

  • When it comes to issues like this I can be highly opinionated. I just don’t believe that man has the right to intrude wherever he wants. So with that in mind, here is my humble opinion;
  • Man may be a higher form of life but we still possess an animal instinct. We also possess a strong sense of survival and self-preservation just like the animal kingdom. History has shown repeatedly that when our survival is in doubt we have the propensity to revert to a philosophy of survival of the fittest, both in action and thought.
  • Therefore my first instinct and action would be to protect the city. Opening the city to outsiders could result in the city being stripped of its vegetation. That would not be a risk I would be willing to take.
  • Instead I would develop a plan in which to gather seeds and cuttings to re-vegetate the external world.

Donna-Luisa: When you look out a starry sky, have you ever hoped something would zoom by? If you could make one wish to have a dream fulfilled at that moment what would it be?

Question 2Pamela: I want to feel like I’ve made a difference in the world. I’ve worked for years in positions that allowed me to provide for my daughter and give us a life that was stable. My own childhood had little stability and it affected my development and self-esteem. It was important to me that my daughter had the time and opportunity to discover herself and not constantly re-acclimating to new environments. Now that I have an empty nest my wish is to find satisfaction in what I do and if it happens to involve travel and seeing the world then I would truly be living my dream.

Donna-Luisa: You fell asleep in 2016 and awoke in 2026. This is the future. What do you wish to see outside?

Pamela: I’ve always believed in the potential for humanity to come to grips with all the issues that are impacting our world and be able to work together to resolve those issues. I Question 3would want to awake to a world..

  • Where humanity finally accepted everyone’s individuality.
  • I would like to see the health of our planet and its inhabitants having a higher value than profit
  • I would like leaders around the world to put the wellbeing of people at the forefront in making decisions
  • I would like to see poverty eliminated
  • I would like to see greed eliminated
  • I would like to see fossil fuels eliminated as an energy source
  • I would like to see highways replaced with better forms of transportation and the land returned to its natural state
  • I would like to see the trash finally removed from our oceans and waterways
  • I would like to see our food sources not contaminated with chemicals
  • I would like to see more love in the world
  • I would like to see equality for all people

I am a liberal spirit and believe the leaders and shakers of this world owe it to humanity to ensure that all people have their basic needs met.

Donna-Luisa: You have an opportunity to go around the world in eighty days and live your dreams, where would you go and why? By the way, I forgot to mention you will be in an ‘ocean hoover pod built by Elon Musk, with built in surround sound and can video blog!

Pamela: I don’t think there is a part of the world I Don’t want to see. All cultures interest Question 4me. The more different they are from the U.S. the more I want to witness them. What I’d really like to do is visit all the wonderful people I’ve met on social media and see life through their eyes.

I’m not overjoyed with ISIS and I think Putin needs to take a humbleness pill. But those are just a small part of a bigger picture. You can encounter danger anywhere but you can’t live in fear or you’re not living. I learned that the hard way.

As for the video blog, I’m not big on taking pictures while traveling. It’s not that I don’t want to; I just get so wrapped up in the moment I forget. My daughter and I used to take road trips whenever possible. Once we traveled down the U.S. east coast just so she could see the Atlantic Ocean at different points along the coast. I had a camera with me and totally forgot to take pictures. But, we have our memories.

Donna-Luisa: The United Nations has reached out to you for advice on how to help the refugees worldwide through social media. You are their Chief advisor on ‘the internet of things’. What would you suggest?

Pamela: Of all the questions, this was is the hardest. The refugee issue is not one that is going to be solved quickly.

Qeustion 5Many of the countries that are seeing the influx of the refugees are already having crises of their own. Take Greece for example. It’s no secret that they have faced some serious financial issues and yet they have seen thousands of refugees land on their shores. I’m not going to pretend to have an answer to this problem. It’s a huge problem and all countries are going to have to bite a bullet (suffer a few growing pains) and help the people. This isn’t an epidemic they’re trying to prevent; these are human beings escaping from an evil that we have not witnessed the likes of since the Third Reich terrorized Europe. We cannot allow such evil to happen again and whatever the other countries in the world have to do to stop it, then so be it.

I have a very soft heart and I can’t help but think about a time in these people’s lives when they were no more than babes being held by mothers just like me. Mothers that had the same dreams for their children, that most mothers have for a child; happiness, prosperity, and hope.

Despite my best efforts I can’t seem to maintain an angry outlook towards anyone. I can’t help but remember the day my daughter was born and all the dreams and hopes I had for her. Most people start their life that way and those that did not need to be pitied and helped, not rejected or killed. We have got to get past the survival-of-the-fittest mentality, because we are the human race, still animal lifeforms, but a much higher form of life.

Donna-Luisa: I do feel you on the refugee crisis which has become to my mind the greatest test of man’s humanity and love. Saying we love and care means nothing unless we can make into action- help. It is a crisis which will take much more than money, words, and war, to correct. You consistently share your compassion for the environment and humanity with each situation in the future – from not wishing to harm a civilization for the gain of another to having a strong desire to see a much better world. Hope resonates as you share your thoughts even when circumstances are as difficult as the one with the refugees. You are all heart!

Pamela: Again Donna-Luisa, thank you for requesting an interview. It was fun contemplating the questions this week.

Donna-Luisa: Thank you Pamela for agreeing to take us beyond the surface, and deep into the mirror of your heart. I saw you for the first time, face to face via Skype last week and it was amazing. Getting to know you, through opening up my senses to your voice and your beautiful face was such a positive experience. Words are great to read, but it is even better when we can take a chance and step out, out of the world we know and into the unknown, to meet a kindred spirit. Technology has made it possible to expand our horizons, and show our ‘affinity’ with each other.

We have some surprises for you, our treasured readers! First, it is my pleasure to announce, the next episode of Pamela Williams  fictional sage of the young warrior is completed. Episode 4 will be published the day following this interview and I will make the title live as soon as its released!

The Seasons of Change – the harshness of winter (Episode 4)

The other surprise, is the YouTube link below, with D-wordslayer sharing some thoughts on this dynamic lady – Pamela Williams, bebee.com, and the weather!

Bebee  and its Affinity network has made this exchange possible, through its social media platform which encourages engagement, creativity, and professional networking! At the time of publishing beBee announced Pamela Williams as one of its Ambassadors – Congratulations to  an amazing lady and friend living in North Carolina, USA!!

Thank you for reading, viewing, engaging and sharing with us. Maybe you can go beyond into your future to find the answers in your mirror.
